Frequently Asked Questions

What industries do you have experience in?

Health and wellness, parenting, environment/climate change, business, coaching, dating, publishing, photography, film, theater, technology, psychology/self-help, and more.

I see you don’t live in the United States. Will there be any complications in hiring you?

I’m a U.S. citizen and therefore legally allowed to work for U.S. businesses. I live in southern Quebec, just over the border from Vermont where I lived for 15 years. I still maintain a post office box and a bank account in Vermont to make transactions easier for clients.

Do you specialize in an industry or type of copywriting service?

I actively seek out values-driven businesses, nonprofits, and socially responsible organizations. I’ve also done the majority of my writing in the health and wellness and parenting industries.

What is your educational background?

I have an MFA from Goddard College in Interdisciplinary Arts (concentration writing and performance) and a B.A. in English from Tufts University. I also have a law degree, a Juris Doctor, from Northeastern University.

Do you have a money-back guarantee?

I generally include two rounds of edits in my contracts which function as a guarantee. If I don’t hit it on the first try, you can let me know what’s missing in your feedback, either through comments on the document (Google docs or Word track changes) or when we speak at our feedback meetings.

How long does it take you to write a blog?

Usually about a week, unless there are interviews involved. Then it depends on the availability of the interviewees.

Can I pay by Paypal? Visa or Mastercard? Interac? Check?

I accept Paypal, Interac, or check. I also work with clients who subscribe to Viewpost which works well.

Do you require a contract? A deposit?

Yes to both. I draw up a simple, easy-to-read contract with terms and we negotiate until we agree on everything. I ask for 50% down before I begin work.

Do you do SEO?

I have a working knowledge of SEO and use the Yoast plugin on Wordpress sites. I have colleagues who are SEO specialists to whom I refer clients who want extensive and ongoing SEO services.

I want a marketing strategy for my business. Can you do that?

I have lots of idea about marketing and can brainstorm with you, but I’m not a strategist by training. I do have colleagues who do this and I can put you in touch with them.

Can you do branding or a logo?

I can help assemble a team and provide project management. I only do the copywriting and editing for branding contracts.

Can you make my website for me?

Yes…and no. I have colleagues I team with and I can do the project management necessary to get your site designed and built. I personally only do the copywriting.

I saw another copywriter on Fivver who will write a blog article for me for $15. Why are your rates so much higher?

I offer a premium service. The value in hiring me isn’t just rock star writing. It's teaming up with a seasoned professional who shows up and delivers, every time. It's also my extensive knowledge of consumer engagement and relationships, how to attract and keep people buying what you have to offer, in an authentic, non-sleazy way. As my client, I will make your life easier and much more fun. Only you can decide if this is worth paying for. My clients believe it is, and most of them have been with me for years.

How much do you charge? Why don’t you have your prices on your website?

My rates vary tremendously depending on the project, the industry, and the client. There are too many factors involved to list prices specifically. I’m happy to have a short chat with you about your project and can then provide you a detailed proposal with all terms and prices spelled out, usually within 24 hours.

So I want to work with you. What happens?

I send you a contract. You return it, signed, with 50% down (I take Paypal, Interac, or checks). We do an intake session on the phone. I provide a draft and then you give me feedback. We have another phone meeting. If it's in our contract, I do another round of edits. I present the final draft for your approval and you send the balance. My clients often tell me they were surprised by how much fun our work together was.

How do I know you’re good?

The best people to ask are my clients. Check the testimonials on each of the three services pages. I provide references upon request so feel free to ask.
